Hawaiian French Awesome
Fooled by Pinterest…
I saved this recipe on my “try board” Sunday when I was making my menu for the week, not realizing that it was just a picture …for a book…to buy. This didn’t really seem like a complicated meal, so I went to the Kings website and tweaked it a bit. I wanted a fluffier recipe without the yuck soggy egg part that I’m not a fan of.
Cutting the roles into smaller slices made every bite perfectly crispy, I’ve never made mini French toast pieces but this may be a regular. It also made the actually dipping, and cooking part much faster.
This recipe fed 5 of us, one of the basement kids ended up going Golem mode and finished off what was left.

Ingredients:
24 pack Hawaiian rolls ~ each roll cut into 3 slices.
1/2 cup flour
6 eggs
1 1/4 cup heavy cream
2 splash Milk
Vanilla ~ You measure this shit with your heart, I refuse to add parameters.
2tsp cinnamon
butter or oil for cooking ~ it took about a stick and a half of butter; to cook everything but we are a pro butter household. 🤷♀️
Optionals for toppings:
Powdered sugar, syrup, sliced fruit, compote, jam.
The flour is the most important part of this recipe, it makes a fluffy toast without the soggy egg part. The flour binds the egg and cream together and makes the egg soak more like a batter.
Add your flour and cream to a casserole dish (or whatever you plan on using for the egg mixture…I hate dishes so one pan it is.) Use a hand mixer until it’s all combined, then add your eggs, milk, vanilla, and cinnamon. Mix again until well combined.
DIP your Hawaiian slices in the egg, DON’T soak the Hawaiian slices in the egg batter. You will get mushy, but fragrant yuck. I literally put one side down in the egg, flipped it immediately then put it a hot buttered pan.
You can use a griddle instead of a pan, but I was too lazy to pull it out of the cabinet and also wash its awkwardness. Plus, I just put it up from the last time I used it, so lazy girl prevailed tonight.
I didn’t time how long I cooked the slices, I just peeked to see if the first side was done and cooked until it was browned on both.

This one turned out pretty amazing, 10 out of 10 would recommend.
I hope you enjoy as much as we did!
